5 c. peeled, thinly sliced apples
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 unbaked 9-inch pastry shell
1/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1/4 c. all-purpose flour
1/4 c. wheat germ
1/4 c. butter or margarine
1/4 c. flaked coconut
Combine apples, 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon; toss gently. Spoon mixture evenly into pastry shell. Combine 1/4 cup sugar and next 3 ingredients; mix well. Cut butter into flour mixture with pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Stir in coconut; sprinkle over apple mixture. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes. Yield: 1 (9 inch) pie.
